Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is a new to me form of yoga.  One main principle of Yin yoga that makes it perfect at this time is the challenge to connective tissues and joints.  Initally it seems to be less intensive and somewhat “boring” but the positive effects are quickly felt in a few short sessions.

Yin yoga strives to find the right amount of challenge in each position and then holds that position to let it sink in.   Holding can be anywhere from one to twenty minutes.  The effect is lengthening,  stretching and opening.

The slow approach of Yin yoga makes it suitable for all ages and levels of experience.  I find it particularly helpful during this time of healing.  The muscle spasticity that comes along with multiple sclerosis  seems to be experiencing positive effects of this practice as well.

If you have never tried yoga, I suggest checking out this form of yoga as you discover the benefits of a consistent, daily yoga practice.
